Elegy is designed to be an elegant home for enduring memorial tributes — including obituaries, photo galleries, comment threads, and other meaningful ways of honoring loved ones online.
Bob and Jamie Passaro launched Elegy in 2025 to create a space where grieving family and friends could connect and share memories in a simple, affordable format that tries to mirror the experience of an in-person memorial.
Bob is a web developer and former newspaper journalist, and Jamie is an obituary writer (dearpersonobits.com) with a passion for personal stories.
Both have lost loved ones in recent years and have noted the high cost and datedness of placing obits in newspapers. Local papers just don’t have the same audience they used to. Bob and Jamie also noticed the heartfelt and personal nature of tributes that people posted for loved ones on social media.
And while those were often moving and genuine, they saw a need to elevate that experience onto a quieter, more thoughtful, less fleeting platform.
Unlike many “free” services all across the internet, we do not make money by feeding ads to viewers of the site, or by mining and selling your personal data — so that others can feed you ads. We have no interest in that. We are not “big tech.” In fact, we are proudly “small tech.” We simply charge what we believe is a fair and competitive fee to use this platform. And then we leave you alone.
Which means: We are open to your thoughts about how Elegy works for you, and we would love to hear how it could be made to work better for you. Don’t hesitate to contact us.
